School Board Releases Details of “Secret” Settlement
2009 November 9
Via The Tennessean (Jamie Sarrio):
Attorneys for the Metro school board apologized for saying that a $33,000 settlement should be kept secret, when the details are a matter of public record.
The Tennessean filed an open records request to find out why the school board approved the agreement on Oct. 27 without offering any details about the case. On the advice of attorneys, board members wouldn’t offer up any info because they said the legal settlement was confidential and also protected by student privacy laws.Thursday, the attorneys reversed their opinion and released an edited version of the settlement, which involves a former Metro special education student.
No slush fund, I guess.
